Handhand Water Testing Meters

One of the easiest ways to test your koi ponds is to use a handheld digital water testing meter.  These individual/multi meters can test pH, TDS, EC, ORPSalt and pond temperature.  Handheld pond testing meters don't require reagents which makes them ideal for carrying out a testing quickly and accurately.

EC (electrical conductivity) Meters

EC meters test for low levels of ionic constituents and are mainly used for testing the results of a reverse osmosis filter, bottled water, and tap water. EC meters use electronic conductivity to produce its readings.

An EC meter usually shows the reading in either micromhs per centimeter (uMho/cm) or microsiemens per centimeter (uS/cm). 1.0 uMho/cm is equivalent to 1.0 uS/cm. A TDS meter usually shows the reading in milli-grams per liter(mg/l) or parts per million (ppm).

You can test EC by using the following meters, Hanna Waterproof TDS/Conductivity & Temp Tester (HI 98311) or use Hanna Waterproof pH/Conductivity/TDS/Temp Tester (HI 98130).

Thermometers

Your ponds entire ecosystem depends on the temperature of the water.  Everything from daily feeding to the immune system of the fish is affected by the variable changes in temperature, during the day and during the four seasons. This can be seen as annoying or another chore, but many pond owners don’t mind.  They check the temperature daily or twice daily when they head out to feed the fish.  If you don’t feed your fish you’ll just have to make a point to go admire your pond once or twice a day and check the temperature then.

We recommend you use the following meters for best accuracy, Thermometer – Thermamite 1 Digital (calibrated) or Thermometer – Aquarium with Alarm.
